Hadith in Arabic

حَدَّثَنَا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَظِيمِ الْعَنْبَرِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنْبَأَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ ابْنِ طَاوُسٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِيهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّمَا كُنَّا نَحْفَظُ الْحَدِيثَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَالْحَدِيثُ يُحْفَظُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَمَّا إِذَا رَكِبْتُمُ الصَّعْبَ وَالذَّلُولَ فَهَيْهَاتَ .

Hadith in Urdu

میں نے عبداللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما کو کہتے سنا: ہم تو بس حدیثیں یاد کرتے تھے اور حدیث رسول تو یاد کی ہی جاتی ہے، لیکن جب تم مشکل اور آسان راستوں پر چلنے لگے تو ہم نے دوری اختیار کر لی ۱؎۔

Hadith in English

It was narrated from Ibn Tawus that his father said: I heard Ibn 'Abbas saying: 'We used to memorize Ahadith, and Ahadith were memorized from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). But if you go to the extremes of either exaggeration or negligence (in narrating Ahadith), there is no way we can trust your Ahadith.' .
